“Asia is a region of great strategic importance for us, and we identify the growth opportunity for mobile advertising in both advanced and emerging markets here.” Kerstin Trikalitis, CEO and Co-Founder, Out There Media

Out There Media, according to their website:

Tall claims, if you were an uninformed passersby, right? However, if you dig deeper into Out There Media’s portfolio, you’ll find that, especially if you’re a Globe Telecom subscriber, you might already be an active and possibly even avid end-user of one of Out There Media’s innovations.

It was in 2010 when Globe Telecom partnered with Out There Media in order to boost its MyGlobe Rewards and My Globe Plus services. Globe tapped Out There Media to add a permission-based mobile advertising service to the existing rewards and premium subscriber programs. With this mobile service, subscribers were empowered to choose the mobile ads they stood to receive from brands, products and services they’re keen on trying or hearing more about. Based on their demographic and lifestyle characteristics, which subscribers can assign when they opt-in, the subscribers stood to not only receive ads from their preferred brands, but they also stood to earn redeemable points, which can be exchanged for discounts and free gifts from the My Rewards My Globe loyalty program for all of its subscribers.

The Globe-Out There Media initial launch partners included McDonald’s, Unilever and HSBC.

Out There Media launched the Mobucks™ Mobile Advertising Marketplace which enabled Mobile Operators to monetize their inventory, and Advertisers to reach their audiences effectively and without wastage. And for the consumers who opted to receive Mobucks ads, through Mobucks, Out There Media aimed to see the platform enhance and improve the consumers’ lives.

Out There Media’s global reach doesn’t stop there. Listed among its partners and clients are giant brands such as Coca-Cola, Sony Ericsson, Vodafone, mobilkom Austria Group, Kievstar (Kyivstar), Universal Mc Cann, Ogilvy, Lowe, and Initiative. A go-getting mobile advertising company with giant clients and an estimated reach of 500 million mobile subscribers, internationally.

As of today, Out There Media’s Philippine client portfolio includes Unilever and Zalora.

Given these stats for Out There Media, it is safe to conclude that a dynamic company therefore deserves only the best among its staff, especially its CEO’s.

In light of their bid to increase their presence and reach in Asia, Out There Media named three new CEO’s to head its Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippine offices. For Malaysia, Mohanarajah Visuvanathan heads the company. In Indonesia, Pangestuhadi Kurniadi calls the shots. And in the Philippines, Out There Media chose Rafael Alunan to hold the reins.

We’re sure you did a double-take there, too, Pinay Media Planner.

Before we go on with the news report, I just want to note that as an elementary student, I’ve studied about Rafael Alunan for both the late Corazon C. Aquino’s cabinet, as the Secretary of the Department of Tourism, then for the former president Fidel V. Ramos’ cabinet, this time as the Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government.

Hardly did I ever expect to report about Mr. Rafael Alunan for the advertising realm. As it stands, Out There Media certainly chose the best to head their Philippine Office.

Because they chose the only son of former two-time Cabinet Member, Rafael Alunan III, Rafa Alunan.

Rafael “Rafa” Alunan is a known digital marketer and businessman, and, get this, he’s not only in advertising as a man-behind-the-scenes; he’s also an endorser for different products, and is even known to have graced magazine covers and inner page spreads. He and his wife, ARANAZ co-founder Amina Aranaz-Alunan, have taken part in photographer Raymund Isaac’s advocacy campaigns. Nothing like living out advertising, in the flesh, by being a model as well.
